Public health seeks to improve the health of populations by identifying and removing often unrecognized barriers to health. Racism is a public health emergency and public health professionals work to advance the highest level of health possible for each person by addressing structural inequities.

Twelve students from a range of majors began the Public Health in Practice program with a fall introductory public health course and the initiation of a local community-engaged project related to public health. In December they virtually traveled to Minneapolis/St. Paul and Washington, D.C. to meet with a wide variety of individuals working to promote public health. In the follow-up winter course, students designed this website to highlight how equity and social justice connect the multiple facets of public health. The site reflects the multi- and interdisciplinary nature of public health and draws attention to the social structures and policies that impact an individual’s health.
